1998 PAUL FALKOWSKI

Picture
Dr. Paul Falkowski, the twenty-first recipient of the A.G. Huntsman Award, has made outstanding contributions to the field of biological oceanography which span an impressive spectrum of topics, ranging from basic principles of the biophysics of photosynthesis, to algal physiology, to coupling of physical and biological processes in the coastal zone, and most recently, to a detailed analysis of the co-evolution of marine organisms and planetary chemical cycles. The breadth of his contributions is even more impressive considering he has made fundamental advances in all of these areas and that he is recognized as an expert in fields ranging from molecular biology to global biogeochemical cycles. He takes a scholarly approach to his work which has resulted in clearly evident excellence in his many contributions at the cutting edge of marine science.
